Waiting Child, Ready Parents: A Study on Pre-Adoption Preparation of Families Adopting from China.

Why Am I Conducting This Project?

When I was a teenager, my family adopted my brother and sister from China’s Waiting Child program.

Though my siblings have not had to face major adjustment issues so far, I’ve seen other families in our adoption community struggle with attachment disorders and other adoption-related obstacles. How can these be avoided? How can parents be ready to handle these problems when they come up?

Little research has been done on pre-adoption preparation for families adopting internationally. I hope to address this gap with Waiting Child, Ready Parents, by coming to better understand the relation between pre-adoptive preparation and parents’ experiences after adoption.My family
